About the Event
The Tri-County Regional Planning Commission (Tri-County) is hosting a training session with the Greater Lansing Regional Committee for Stormwater Management and the Groundwater Management Board on best management practices (BMPs) for road salt application to parking lots and sidewalks during and after winter storm events.
This Smart Salting training, provided by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, will help improve the effectiveness of municipal and private maintenance staff, reduce chloride pollution, and keep local buildings and facilities safe and accessible. Topics covered include the environmental impacts of chloride, equipment calibration, maintenance contracts, weather condition information, application rates, BMPs for plowing and physical removal, and storing materials. The hope is that this training will help prevent chloride contamination in lakes, rivers, streams, and groundwater sources.
Led by Environmental Planners Amanda Hathaway Frattarelli, and Lauren Schnoebelen, this session will target salt and snow removal on parking lots and sidewalks. Similar practices can…
