Residents Invited to Comment on the Draft Metropolitan Transportation Plan Document Beginning November 20th
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 20, 2025
LANSING, Mich. — The Tri-County Regional Planning Commission (Tri-County) is inviting the public to comment on the draft document for the region’s upcoming Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) from November 20 to December 18, 2025. The MTP, titled Moving Mid-Michigan, is a 25-year outlook on the future transportation needs of the Greater Lansing area. Tri-County is currently updating the region’s 2045 MTP to extend its planning horizon to 2050.
Interested individuals can submit comments through Tri-County’s online comment form beginning November 20 and ending December 18. Tri-County will also host a virtual stakeholder input session on December 9 at noon and a virtual town hall for the public on the same day at 4:30 p.m., for those who would like to learn more about the MTP and provide live feedback. Prospective attendees are encouraged to RSVP at movingmidmichigan.org/events. All registered virtual town hall attendees will be entered into a drawing to win a $100 Meijer Gift Card. The winner will be contacted by email after the meeting.
The 2050 MTP, which is proposing over $5.2 billion in projects over the next 25 years, sets a long-term vision for improving the region's transportation systems and infrastructure. It plans for everything from biking and pedestrian trails (non-motorized facilities) to traffic congestion, safety concerns, road conditions, and public transit.
“We recognize the importance of this vision in guiding our efforts to address the region’s major mobility and infrastructure challenges and priorities in the coming years,” said executive director Jim Snell. “As the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the region, our responsibility is to coordinate funding from all government levels and ensure projects serve local residents and businesses. We are excited about the future and anticipate the approval of the 2050 MTP by the end of this year.”
Following the conclusion of this comment period, all input received on the draft document will be reviewed by staff, documented, and incorporated where feasible. Tri-County’s Board of Commissioners will consider the draft document for approval at their regularly scheduled meeting on December 18, 2025, at 6 p.m. Visit movingmidmichigan.org to learn more, view the MTP, and submit comments.
