Public Invited to Review Draft Project List for the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 9, 2025

LANSING, Mich. — The Tri-County Regional Planning Commission (Tri-County) is inviting the public to comment on the new draft project list for the region’s upcoming Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) from July 9 to July 23, 2025. The MTP, titled Moving Mid-Michigan, is a 25-year outlook on the future transportation needs of the Greater Lansing area. Tri-County is currently updating the region’s 2045 MTP to extend its planning horizon to 2050.

Interested individuals can submit comments on these projects, which include construction and operational work, programs and services that improve mobility, and other investments that address regional infrastructure priorities, through Tri-County’s online comment form through July 23. Tri-County will also be hosting a virtual town hall on July 16 at noon for those who would like to learn more about the MTP and provide live feedback. Prospective attendees are encouraged to RSVP at movingmidmichigan.org/events.

The 2050 MTP, which is proposing over $5.2 billion in projects over the next 25 years, sets a long-term vision for improving the region's transportation systems and infrastructure. It plans for everything from biking and pedestrian trails (non-motorized facilities) to traffic congestion, safety concerns, road conditions, and public transit.

“We appreciate the significance of this vision in guiding our approach to navigating the region’s major mobility and infrastructure challenges and priorities in future years,” said Executive Director Jim Snell. “As the region’s Metropolitan Planning Organization, it is our responsibility to coordinate funding across all government levels and ensure that projects serve the interests of local residents and businesses in our community. We are excited about what’s ahead and look forward to the adoption of the 2050 MTP at the end of this year.”

Following the conclusion of this comment period, all input received on the draft project list will be reviewed by staff, documented, and incorporated where feasible. Tri-County’s Board of Commissioners will consider the draft project list for approval at their regularly scheduled meeting on July 30, 2025, at 6 p.m. Visit movingmidmichigan.org to learn more, view the current iteration of the MTP, and submit comments.
