Tri-County Seeking Input on Future Transportation Projects

Transportation Improvement Program Projected to Invest More Than $370 Million in the Region Over the Next Four Years

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 29, 2024

LANSING, Mich. — The Tri-County Regional Planning Commission (Tri-County) is inviting the public to provide feedback on proposed projects for the region’s next Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The TIP, which plans out road and bridge, public transit, and bicycle and pedestrian projects over a four-year cycle, invests hundreds of millions of dollars into transportation infrastructure and services throughout Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties.

Once completed, the new TIP is anticipated to invest more than $377 million in construction and other projects that improve the safety, connectivity, and mobility of people in the Greater Lansing area beginning in the fall of 2025 until the fall of 2029. The draft list of projects for this 2026-2029 fiscal year TIP cycle may be viewed at mitcrpc.org/tip. Comments regarding these proposed projects may be submitted beginning November 5th through 21st via an online form or interactive project map at mitcrpc.org/tip#getinvolved, or made verbally during the Capital Area Regional Transportation Study (CARTS) public meeting scheduled on November 5th at 8:30 a.m.

“It’s our job as the region’s Metropolitan Planning Organization to coordinate funding for transportation projects that strategically maintain and improve our roads, make traveling safer and more efficient, and expand access to different transportation options,” said Executive Director Jim Snell. “We encourage the public to take advantage of this opportunity to share their input about these proposed projects as we continue to work with the State of Michigan, local road agencies, public transit providers, and other community partners to improve our transportation system over the next several years.”

The TIP includes all federally funded and regionally significant transportation projects in the tri-county region. Tri-County works with local governments and agencies to ensure the projects help achieve the long-range vision for the region’s transportation infrastructure and services outlined in the Metropolitan Transportation Plan, Moving Mid-Michigan. The TIP is a living document that implements the goals, priorities, and investment strategy of Moving Mid-Michigan and is regularly revised to reflect the most current transportation projects planned in the region.

Tri-County’s Board of Commissioners will be accepting public comment and considering approval of these projects at their regularly scheduled meeting on November 21, 2024. All feedback received on projects will be reviewed and addressed per Tri-County’s Public Participation Plan. The FY 2026-2029 TIP is anticipated to be adopted by the Board in May 2025 and will begin implementation on October 1, 2025.
